Did you ever see that Pier 1 commercial that says “Find what speaks to you”?

I’m just like that. Something “speaks to me”, or I see something, and to use a southern expression, I “have a fit over it”. Most of the time it’s an accessory, but it can really be anything. A comforter, a cool piece of furniture, or some lighting.

These are easy things to incorporate into your home or office. But when you are decorating, it would be impossible to fall in love with every single thing in the space. If you took months and gathered a room full of furniture, rugs, pillows, window treatments and paint colors that you were crazy about, they probably would not compliment each other and would not bring about the look you were going for.

So what’s the solution? Love what you like! If you have a couch that you found on Craig’s list and had it recovered, and now it’s outrageously beautiful, you might find some throw pillows that showcase it. Maybe the pillows are not your fave by themselves, but they make the couch look even better.

Pick out the top 5 things that you can’t live without, and like the rest. Be infatuated, swoon, and crush over the other things. Then when those feelings wear off, there’s still a romantic feeling about the space. Design is a little like relationships - you never know when you’re gonna fall in ‘like’.
